The two-time Indian Premier League's (IPL) champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be spearheaded by their new skipper Shreyas Iyer in the 15th edition of the cash-rich league. The Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata franchise will take on the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2022 opener on March 26 to avenge their last year's final defeat. Expectations are pretty high from the star studded KKR who will be chasing their third title in IPL 2022.
It will be interesting to see the duo of Australian speedster Pat Cummins and Shreyas Iyer who will be reuniting after a long time, playing for the same franchise.
Cummins walked down the memory lane and recalled sharing the dressing room with Iyer as they used to share the same dressing room when in Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals).
“Shreyas, I played with (him) at Delhi (Daredevils), we got on really well. He seems like a very calm guy and seems in form at the moment. I’m so excited to go over there, I have some close friends I will be playing alongside, can’t wait,” Cummins said during a press conference in Lahore.
Australia Test skipper, who was released by KKR ahead of the mega auction, was bought back by the franchise for a whopping Rs 7.25 crore in the IPL auction 2022. On the other hand KKR broke bank to get Iyer on board for INR 12.25 crore in the mega auction.
“Really excited. It’s been great that most of the squad has been able to kept together. So, most of the players and staff know really well,” he added.
Meanwhile, Cummins is currently in Pakistan for a three-match Test series, which stands at 0-0 after the first two games. The third Test is set to be played from March 21 in Lahore.
