The second season of the International League T20 (ILT20) is set to begin on January 19. ILT20 2024's opener will see Sharjah Warriors locking horns with Gulf Giants. Meanwhile, after playing a three-match T20 series against India, Afghanistan's explosive opening batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz has reached Dubai to link up with his franchise Dubai Capitals. During an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak, Gurbaz heaped praise on India's formidable finisher Rinku Singh. Notably, both Rinku and Gurbaz will be seen playing for the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL 2024 season.
Gurbaz all praise for Rinku Singh
"There is no doubt that he (Rinku Singh) is an excellent cricketer and finisher. His most distinctive quality is that he plays the ball on its merit whenever he's on the field. He's not just about hitting...he's a very clever cricketer. Therefore, I can say that he is going to emerge as an outstanding cricketer for India in the future," Rahmanullah Gurbaz told Sports Tak,
Gurbaz further stated that the way he has been playing and improving day by day is impressive. He has proven himself by delivering powerful performances against every team. He has a good understanding of the situations and since joining Team India, he has been a consistent part of it and doesn't want to be left out. He knows that he has come to Team India to achieve something, so he is bound to do well in the future.
'Maxwell's 200-run knock still haunts'
Glenn Maxwell's historic double century against Afghanistan during ODI World Cup 2023 is still vivid in everyone's memory. Australia had lost seven wickets at just 91 runs while chasing a target of 292 runs against Afghanistan. But it was Glenn Maxwell who played an exemplary knock and turned the match on its head. Maxwell scored 210 runs off 128 balls, including 21 fours and 10 sixes, and single-handedly won the match for Australia despite cramping. Reflecting on the loss, Gurbaz said that Maxwell's double cent still haunts Afghanistan. "Mostly such things happen against us, so we have become used to it. That match was very important for us, and we will never be able to forget Maxwell's innings. However, we have moved on from it and our entire focus is now on the next World Cup."
