Despite being one of the most watched Indian Premier League (IPL) teams, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has not yet taken home an IPL trophy. Considering the caliber of players who have played for the team, it is shocking that RCB has not won a title. In past years, RCB has struggled primarily with bowling, which has let them down. Ahmad Shahzad, a former opener for Pakistan, made a significant statement when he claimed that Mohammad Amir in the RCB may help the squad win their first championship.
Latif on RCB
Amir and former wicketkeeper-batter Rashid Latif also appeared in the Geo TV show where Shahzad made the remark. Latif stated that RCB should not consider winning the championship till MS Dhoni is with the CSK.
"If Amir plays for RCB, they could win the IPL title," said Shehzad.
"Till MS Dhoni is there in CSK, don't even think RCB can touch the IPL trophy." replied Latif.
Since Pakistani players are prohibited from participating in the IPL, Mohammad Amir is unable to compete. Before the BCCI banned Pakistani players because of political rivalry, the players played in the first two seasons.
AB De Villiers on RCB in IPL 2025
Virat Kohli must perform well if RCB is to win the IPL. With 741 runs in 15 games at an average of 61.75, a strike rate of 154.69, a century, and five fifties, Kohli had an incredible season and won the Orange Cap the previous year. His strike rate, which was below 150 in the first six games, raised some eyebrows, but Kohli significantly improved after receiving criticism, hitting at 166 in the remaining games. The legendary South African and former RCB star AB De Villiers dismissed claims regarding Kohli's strike rate, claiming that he only did what was best for the team.
"The scrutiny over Virat's strike rate was absolutely ridiculous. He had done exactly what his team needed from him. It is all about the situation. When he has someone at the other end he trusts, you see him experiment and play with more freedom. But when that's not the case, he stays true to his natural game--anchoring the innings when needed," said AB on JioHotstar.
