Team India will be playing the third and final Test of the series against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai without their premium pacer Jasprit Bumrah who has been one of the prominent performers for the hosts across format. India is already reeling behind 2-0 in the series and is in an almost must-win situation to have a better road ahead for the World Test Championship Final. Rohit Sharma provided update on Bumrah and said that he is not well.
Rohit Sharma on Jasprit Bumrah
Indian captain Rohit Sharma revealed during the toss that Jasprit Bumrah is not well and will be replaced by star pacer Mohammed Siraj in the line-up for the Mumbai game. Siraj was unable for the Pune Test and now will be eyeing to make a good comeback and help India with quick breakthroughs.
"We'd have batted first too. We accept that we didn't play well this series. But this is an opportunity to correct that. Hopefully we can restrict them quickly. (WTC final) Right now our focus is on this Test match. On the back of the mind you need to keep in mind about that, but right now we need to play our best cricket which we haven't this series. Bumrah is not well, so Siraj replaces him," said Rohit Sharma during toss.
BCCI also gave an update on Bumrah's health and said that the pacer is yet to fully recover from his viral illness and was not available for selection. "Mr Jasprit Bumrah has not fully recovered from his viral illness. He was unavailable for selection for the third Test in Mumbai," BCCI wrote in their statement.
India would be hoping that Bumrah recovers fast and gets a good rest ahead of their tour of Australia as he will be one of their most crucial assets for the five-match series in the land down under.
