Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not made it official yet but according to a document obtained by Sports Tak, Paras Mhambrey is set to succeed bowling coach Bharat Arun. Along with Mhambrey, head coach Rahul Dravid’s support staff has been selected as well. Also, T Dilip has been appointed as replacement for fielding coach R Sridhar. The support staff will join the team before the Kanpur Test starting on November 25.
New fielding coach Dilip has been mentioned in the roster for the Kanpur Test. Along with fielding and bowling coach, other support staff has been added to the roster as well.
Arun and Sridhar’s contract came to an end with India’s T20 World Cup 2021 ending at the Super 12 stage. While Dravid was named as former head coach Ravi Shastri’s successor straight away before the T20I series, the support staff was not finalised.
Earlier this month, Sports Tak had reported that Mhambrey is to be India’s new bowling coach. The Maharashtra-born all-rounder has played two Tests and three ODIs taking two and three wickets respectively. The 49-year-old made his debut in 1996 and played his last match in 1998. His last domestic appearance was in 2003.
India will begin the two-Test series under the leadership of stand-in skipper Ajinkya Rahane as Virat Kohli has been rested for three-T20I series and the Kanpur Test. New Zealand skipper Kane Williamson will also return as skipper as the Test comes under the World Test Championship 2021-23. This will be the first Test between the two teams since the WTC 2021 final where India were beaten by eight wickets.
