Pakistan's batting maestro Babar Azam was heavily criticised by cricket fans on social media following his underwhelming performance in both innings of the first Test against Australia in Perth, which the Men in Green lost by 360 runs on December 17, Sunday.
In Pakistan's first innings, Babar only managed to score 21 runs from 54 balls. His struggle continued in the second innings, where he yet again failed to make a mark as he was perished for just 14 runs which came off in 37 balls.
Batting first Australia amassed a total of 487 runs in the first innings. Pakistan, in response, were dismissed for 271 runs, resulting in a substantial lead of 216 runs for Australia. The Australian team declared at 233/5 after lunch on the fourth day, setting an imposing target of 450 runs for Pakistan in their final innings.
During the chase, the visiting team Pakistan got off to a disappointing start, quickly falling to 17/2 within the first six overs. A lot of expectations were pinned on Babar when he took the crease but once again he too left Pakistan in lurch with his dismal batting.
However, he could only contribute 14 before being dismissed by Pat Cummins in the 15th over. Following his departure, Pakistan's innings crumbled, leading to their all-out for 89 and a substantial loss by 360 runs.
Meanwhile, cricket fans on social media trolled Babar left, right and centre on social media as they felt their batting star failed to rise to the occasion when his team needed him most. They also highlighted his struggles in Test matches in SENA (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) countries. This criticism was extensively shared and discussed by fans on various social media platforms.
