Pakistan's ace pacer Shaheen Afridi explained why the Pakistan team was seen loading their luggage onto truck at the Sydney airport few days back. Shaheen Afridi stated that they were eager to assist one another because their connecting flight was scheduled to depart in 30 minutes.
The Pakistan team arrived at the Australian airport on Saturday for their upcoming Test series against Australia. The series will consist of three Test matches between Pakistan and Australia.
In an interview with reporters in Canberra, Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Afridi clarified why they carried their own luggage. He explained that there were only two individuals available to assist them with their luggage and that they had just 30 minutes to catch their next flight. As a result, they decided to collaborate and assist one another, acting as a family.
“We only had 30 minutes to catch our next flight and we helped because there were just two people. We wanted to wrap it up fast and to save time. We call this team a family and helped them as a family,” Afridi said.
The Pakistan team's decision to carry their own luggage at the airport elicited a variety of reactions from fans. While some found amusement in the team's seemingly unwelcomed arrival, others voiced criticism towards Australia for what they perceived as inadequate hospitality services.
Meanwhile, David Warner prepares to embark on his final Test series against Pakistan, having announced his retirement from the format following the conclusion of the series. Shaheen Afridi extended his best wishes to Warner on this occasion.
“We would wish him good luck but we are not hoping for a good end for David Warner in his last Test series against us. This is an important series for Pakistan as we are leading the World Test Championship’s point table at the moment”, Shaheen Afridi said.
Under the leadership of newly appointed captain Shan Masood, who took over the reins following Babar Azam's decision to step down from captaincy across all formats, Pakistan will look to end their long-standing drought of Test match victories on Australian soil, their last win dating back to 1995.
Pakistan will face Australia in an upcoming Test series, commencing with the first Test on December 14 at Perth Stadium. Prior to the Test series, Pakistan will engage in a warm-up match to prepare for the challenging encounters against the formidable Australian side.
