Shan Masood could only score 30 off 43 balls in Pakistan's first innings of the 1st Test against Australia.

Mitchell Starc bagged the prized wicket of Pakistan's captain in the 50th over.

Facing a mammoth 487-run total, the Pakistani opener displayed exceptional grit in front of Australia's lethal bowling attack on Day 2 of the first Test at Perth's Optus Stadium on Friday, December 15. Their resilience and grit formed the foundation of Pakistan's early fightback. Partnering with Abdullah Shafique (42), Imam-ul-Haq stitched a solid 74-run opening stand, laying a strong platform for Pakistan's batting.

Though Shafique was trapped by Nathan Lyon's spin wizardry in the 37th over. But Imam found a capable ally in skipper Shan Masood. Their partnership, however, was abruptly cut short when Masood's reflexes turned awry while evading a powerful drive from Imam-ul-Haq off Lyon's bowling. The ball struck Masood on the arm and back, forcing him to retire hurt.

Despite the unfortunate incident, Imam remained unfazed, continuing his determined vigil at the crease. Masood experienced significant discomfort during his innings, prompting immediate attention from the physiotherapists who applied a pain-relieving spray to a bruised area on his back.

Despite the injury, the captain persevered at the crease, delivering a series of sharp shots, with a focus on accelerating the team's scoring rate. Displaying a bold approach, Masood aimed for quick runs. However, as the day neared its close, he was dismissed. Falling prey to a delivery by Mitchell Starc, Masood edged the ball outside off, leading to a catch by Alex Carey. His dismissal seemed inevitable as he consistently risked shots outside off. While Masood contributed 30 runs from 43 deliveries, Imam diligently maintained his stance, ending Day 2 unbeaten with 38 runs from 136 balls. Pakistan concluded the second day of play with a score of 132 for the loss of two wickets.
