Tamil Nadu batter N Jagadeesan scored a brilliant unbeaten 116 off 95 balls as he continued his impressive run with the bat to dominate Day 2 of their Ranji Trophy 2022-23 Elite Group B clash against Hyderabad on Wednesday, December 14. After Hyderabad scored 395 runs in the first innings Tamil Nadu went into stumps at 203/0. Joining Jagadeesan with a brilliant innings was Sai Sudharsan batting on 87 off 115 balls.
In the Ranji Trophy 2022-23 Elite Group C match in Porvorim, Arjun Tendulkar, son of former legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar, scored a fantastic century in his debut game for Goa against Rajasthan. Upon reaching the magical three-figure mark, Arjun matched the feat of his father, who 34 years ago in 1988 scored a brilliant hundred on debut against Gujarat while playing for Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium.
Arjun, who came into bat at No.7 with Goa tottering at 201/5, stitched a remarkable 200+ partnership with Suyash Prabhudessai en route to recording his maiden century in India's premier domestic tournament. Arjun was unbeaten on 112 runs in 189 balls with the help of 15 fours and two sixes.
Prabhudessai himself smashed 212 off 416 balls as Goa racked up 493 for 8 in 163.2 overs heading into the end of the day's play.
For Manipur, there was a surprise performer in Pheiroijam Singh, with the 16-year-old scripting history in the Ranji Trophy match against Sikkim as he became only the fourth Indian to grab nine wickets on his first-class debut.
The young turk ran riot riding on an unbelievable spell of 69/9 to join the elite list that features Vasant Ranjane (9/35, 1956-57), Amarjith Singh (9/45, 1971-72) and Sanjay Yadav (9/52, 2019-20) as all of them snared a nine-wicket-haul on their first-class debut respectively. Manipur skittled out Sikkim for a paltry 220. It was the 10th best in first-class cricket history and the fourth best by an Indian on debut.
