Fabian Allen, the West Indies' star all-rounder, fell prey to gunpoint robbery in Johannesburg which left the cricketing world stunned. The 28-year-old Fabian Allen, hailing from Jamaica and currently representing the Paarl Royals franchise in the SA20 league, was targeted outside the team's hotel, leaving him deeply shaken.
The culprits, armed with a firearm, confronted Allen in close proximity to the Sandton Sun Hotel, forcibly taking his phone and personal belongings, including a bag. This incident has raised significant concerns about the safety of players participating in the SA20 league.

Meanwhile, sources associated with the Paarl Royals team, SA20, and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have confirmed the occurrence. However, a source from CWI has reassured that Allen remains unharmed. Also, a representative from the West Indies board expressed relief after establishing contact with the player.
"Our head coach Andre Coley, also hailing from Jamaica, reached out to Fabian. Contact was successfully established through Obed McCoy (another West Indies international). He is fine. CSA (Cricket South Africa) and his team, Paarl Royals, could share more details if there are any," a top CWI official told Cricbuzz.

Despite making efforts to gather information, attempts to obtain details from the Paarl Royals management remained unanswered. A spokesperson for the SA20 league, while not refuting the incident, redirected inquiries to a police officer who, as of the time of printing, had no immediate information to share. The player himself could not be contacted for a statement. This incident represents the second security-related occurrence involving SA20 players in recent times. The league is currently in its second season, having reached the playoffs stage. Following Qualifier 1 later in the night, Paarl Royals are scheduled to play the Eliminator on February 7. The final match is set for February 10.
