India and South Africa will face off in the first of their five-match T20I series which will be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday, June 9. With both teams working hard during their training sessions, an image has gone viral on social media which shows one of their latest call-ups to the national team Umran Malik bowling a ball that might be the fastest ball in the history of cricket.
In the photo that is doing rounds on the internet, the speed gun shows that the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowler clocks a massive speed of 163.7 Kmph. However, it is very important to note here that this information has not been confirmed by the BCCI. But if this is in fact true, then this will break a record set by former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar.
In 2002, the Rawalpindi Express clocked a speed of 161.3 kmph during a match between Pakistan and New Zealand.
Umran was a revelation for SRH in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. The star picked up 22 wickets in 14 matches and was then included in the T20i squad for the upcoming series against the Proteas. While Umran regularly clocked speeds over 150 kmph, his kine and length were often not on point as the Jammu and Kashmir batter began conceding too many runs towards the business end of the competition.
Umran's fastest ball in IPL 2022 was 157 KMPH, although this will be the first time that an Indian bowler has touched a speed of 160 kmph. Meanwhile, the first T20I between India and Pakistan will kick off at 7:00 PM in Delhi.
