Sri Lanka suffered their first loss of the current World Test Championship (WTC) 2021-2023 cycle as India marked Virat Kohli's 100th Test and Rohit Sharma's Test captaincy debut with a massive win. After the loss by an innings and 222 runs, Sri Lanka have slipped from the top of the WTC table to third as they have a win percentage of 66.66 per cent. However, India's position on the table did not change despite the record win as they have a win percentage of 54.16 after their fifth win from 10 games.

The table is currently topped by Australia who are currently playing Pakistan in the first Test of the three-Test series in Rawalpindi. Australia have 86.66 win percentage with four wins from five games after a successful Ashes 2021-22.

Pat Cummins-led Australia are followed by Babar Azam's Pakistan. India's arch-rivals have a win percentage of 75 with three wins from four Tests. Dean Elgar's South Africa occupy the fourth spot with three wins from five games and a win percentage of 60.

The winners of the inaugural season, New Zealand will have a tough time qualifying for the final this time around. They have just two wins from six games with a win percentage of 38.88. The BlackCaps are followed by Bangladesh, West Indies and then England at the bottom. England have a horrible win percentage of 9.25 after six losses from nine games. They also have 10 penalty overs against their name. Only other team in the list with penalty overs (3) is India.

While India are in the fifth place, they have most number of points (65). The ongoing Sri Lanka series is their fourth series of the current cycle. A win in next game will give a boost to their chances of qualifying for second consecutive final whereas a loss for Sri Lanka will bring them down to the fifth spot.

India’s last Test of the ongoing cycle will be against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham. The final Test of the five-Test series was rescheduled due to Covid-19 outbreak in Indian camp which included former head coach Ravi Shastri. Indi are currently leading the five-Test series by 2-1.
