'He accepts points and suggestions only when he is convinced': Chandu Borde recalls his first meeting with Virat Kohli

Former India cricketer Virat Kohli’s style of playing cricket and his terrific batting skills are known to all but former Indian cricketer Chandu Borde saw Kohli’s “aggressive approach in nets” long time back. While, talking about Kohli and his style of playing the game, legendary Indian cricketer Chandu Borde shared some interesting anecdotes as well.

Borde speaks

“When he was 17 or 18, North Zone had a coaching camp in Mohali. Kohli was one of the players, and I was sent by the BCCI to coach him and the rest of the guys. I saw him have a very aggressive approach in the nets also. When you tell him something, he would try to make use of the suggestions in the nets and try to correct himself,” Borde recalled while speaking in an interview with News18.com.

“He puts across his points, has his opinion and does not back out. He accepts points and suggestions only when he is convinced. He doesn’t like to stand and watch others. He likes to do something all the time. He’s been an exciting cricketer right from childhood. He wants to keep on moving. He does not stick to one place. He wants to be in the game all the time when he is on the field,” explained the 87-year-old former Indian cricketer.

Another anecdote

According to Borde “there are some cricketers who still have respect for old cricketers, and Virat Kohli is one of them.”

"He respects senior players. I met him two years back during the day-night match in Kolkata. The moment he saw me, he came and greeted me. There are some cricketers who still have respect for old cricketers, and Virat Kohli is one of them."

Kohli recently played his 100th Test match against Sri Lanka in Mohali. The first Test match of the series was won by the hosts led by newly-appointed Test team skipper Rohit Sharma. The Indian team won the Test match by an innings and 222 runs. Kohli scored 45 runs off 76 balls in the first innings of the Test match.

The second and final Test match of the series is slated to be played in Bengaluru on March 12.
