Former India captain Sourav Ganguly wants a strict action on Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. Ganguly wants India to cut all cricketing ties with Pakistan.
Ganguly who was also the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCC) president said that this cannot be tolerated anymore.
"100 per cent, India should do this (break ties with Pakistan). Strict action should be taken. It has turned out to be a joke that such things are happening every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated," Ganguly told reporters.
Earlier, BCCI vice president Rajeev Shukla condemned the attack and said that bilateral series with Pakistan is out of question and the International Cricket Council (ICC) is taking note of what is happening as well.
"We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government will say, we will do. We don't play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government stand. And we will not play with Pakistan in bilaterals going forward. But when it comes to ICC events, we play due to ICC engagement. ICC is also aware of whatever is happening," he told Sports Tak.
It has been over a decade that India and Pakistan have engaged in a bilateral series. India did not travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and played all their matches in Dubai. The Rohit Sharma-led India went on to lift the ICC Champions Trophy whereas co-hosts Pakistan made an early exit as they remained winless at the group stage.
BCCI President Devajit Saikia condemned the heinous attack in the valley.
“The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam yesterday. On behalf of the BCCI, while condemning this ghastly and cowardly act with strongest possible words, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls. In sharing their pain and grief, we stand hand in hand at this hour of tragedy,” Saikia said in a statement.
