Young India batter Shafali Verma who is currently leading Haryana in the 2024 Senior Women's One-Day Trophy smashed 197 runs during the quarter-final 4 against Bengal at the Niranjan Shah Stadium Ground C, Rajkot. The star batter was recently axed from the senior side after a string of poor performances for the India women's cricket team
After being asked to bat, Shafali and Reema Sisodia stitched a partnership of 173 runs for the second wicket. Reema scored 58 off 72 before getting out, and Shafali, who was playing on 106 runs, kept dominating the Bengal bowlers. The batter smashed 197 off 115 in the quarterfinal. Apart from Shafali, Triveni Vasistha and Sonia Mendhiya's 58-run stand helped Haryana score a mammoth total of 389 runs. Sonia was the second highest run-getter for Haryana scoring 61 off 41 runs.
For Bengal, T Sarkar was the pick of the bowlers as she got three wickets. Mita Paul picked up Shafali's wickets who was smashing bowlers all over the ground.
The ongoing tournament has 119 group-stage matches that took place across Delhi, Kolkata, Chandigarh, Rohtak, Ahmedabad, Rajkot, Gurugram, and Jhajjar. The grand finale will take place on December 30.
Shafali last played his international match against New Zealand in October later this year where she scored just 56 runs in three ODI outings. She was dropped from the ODI series against Australia and the star batter also missed his spot in the ongoing ODI series against West Indies where the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side won the first clash to take a 1-0 lead in a three-match ODI series.
