Ajinkya Rahane returns to T20 fray as skipper; to play alongside Prithvi Shaw, Shardul Thakur

Veteran India batter Ajinkya Rahane has been chosen to lead the Mumbai squad for the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022-23 campaign. Rahane, who recently led West Zone to a title triumph in the Duleep Trophy, will now wear the captain's armband and hope to guide a star-studded team to their maiden trophy in the domestic T20 tournament.

Mumbai's team will have many young stars from West Zone's successful Duleep Trophy team, including Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prithvi Shaw and Sarfaraz Khan. In addition to them, Shardul Thakur, Shams Mulani, Tanush Kotian, Dhawal Kulkarni and Tushar Deshpande have also been named in the squad.

The senior selection committee of Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), led by Salil Ankola, selected all-rounder Shivam Dube for the side. Hardik Tamore was named the wicketkeeper.

Mumbai is placed in Group A with Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Railways, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha and Mizoram. Ahead of the tournament, the team will leave for Ahmedabad on October 2, and play three practice T20 games against Gujarat and Rajasthan, before travelling by road to Rajkot.
