With head coach Ravi Shastri's tenure coming to a close with and upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled to be played in UAE, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started the search to fill the post.

A source in the development told Sports Tak, "Yes, we have few names and we are in process to approach them for the post of head coach,".

When asked whether the former Indian skipper Anil Kumble has been approached for a second term, the source said, "He is one of the options as of now. He has done well as chief coach as we have seen previously but it depends on whether he also wants to join the team again or not,"

The source revealed that there are few other former players who are on the list. The board is trying their best to have the best people onboard. The source also hinted that the priority is to find the Indian coach first.

The announcement for the vacancy will be made by BCCI which will be followed by interested candidates applying for the post of head coach. Later on, there will be sorting of candidates and then candidates will be shortlisted for interview.

Previously, Kumble was the coach of the Indian team between 2016 and 2017. However, he had to step down from the post following rift with current Indian skipper Virat Kohli. It will be interesting to see if Kumble makes a return to the dressing room.

On the other hand, it is unlikely that BCCI will give Shastri an extension. Also, the 59-year-old is not expected to apply for the post again.
