India’s Ravichandran Ashwin climbed up to no. 2 on the ICC all-rounders Test rankings after his series-winning performance against New Zealand in the recently concluded two-Test match series.

Ashwin scalped 14 wickets and scored crucial 70 runs against the Kiwis in the Test series. Ashwin moved one place and is currently with 360 rating points and 22 points behind top-ranked West Indies former skipper Jason Holder (382 points).

The 35-year old Ashwin’s fellow countryman Ravindra Jadeja dropped to fourth spot from second position. Jadeja could not feature in the second Test against New Zealand at Wankhede stadium, Mumbai due to a right forearm injury. The Gujarat-born all-rounder currently has 346 points in his kitty and is two points behind English all-rounder Ben Stokes.

Progress for Mayank

India opener Mayank Agarwal, on the other hand, improved his position in the ICC Men’s Test batting rankings. Agarwal’s brilliant batting in second Test against the Kiwis helped him to jump 31 spots and he is currently at 11th position with 712 rating points. The 30-year old batsman’s man of the match effort to score 150 and 62 in the second Test against New Zealand guided him to make this big progress. Agarwal had been in the top 10 of the batting rankings back in 2019.

Two Indian batsmen - Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are other two batters in the top 10 of ICC Men’s Test rankings. India Test skipper Virat Kohli remains at sixth position with 756 rating points. There was no change in India T20I captain Rohit Sharma’s ranking either after the 34-year old batsman secured fifth spot with 797 rating points.

Ajaz rises too

Kiwi spinner Ajaz Patel moved up 23 slots to 38th position after becoming only the third bowler to take all 10 wickets in a Test innings. Mumbai-born Patel ended up bagging 14 wickets in the second Test against India.

Jasprit Bumrah (10th spot with 756 rating points) and Ashwin (second spot with 883 rating points) are two Indian bowlers to feature in top 10 Test bowling rankings. Australia pacer Pat Cummins remains at the top of the ICC Men’s Test bowling rankings with 908 rating points.
