In the lead-up to the Asia Cup 2023, the Indian cricket team have commenced their preparations with a closed-door camp in Alur. Players have been actively participating in various fitness drills, including the mandatory Yo-Yo test, an essential criterion for assessing a cricketer's aerobic endurance.

While the cut-off level for the Yo-Yo test is set at 16.5, all participating cricketers comfortably surpassed this benchmark. Former skipper Virat Kohli, as shared on his Instagram story, achieved a commendable score of 17.2.
Apart from Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Tilak Varma, Sanju Samson, and KL Rahul were among those who undertook the test.

Another PTI report stated, "While the Yo-Yo test results might vary based on a player's recent game activity and workload, Gill's leading score of 18.7 stands out. The scores for most players have ranged between 16.5 and 18."
Organised by the BCCI, this fitness and conditioning camp provides a preparatory window for the players ahead of the much-anticipated World Cup, which India will host in October.
"Whenever there's a gap between two tournaments, the National Cricket Academy collaborates with the Indian team's sports staff to ensure that mandatory tests, like the Yo-Yo, are conducted," the source elaborated.
The Yo-Yo test, introduced about six years ago under the tenure of Strength and conditioning coach Shankar Basu, initially had a cut-off of 16.1, which has since been revised to 16.5.
The latest Yo-Yo test news highlights the superior fitness levels of the younger Indian cricketers. Shubman Gill's top score, especially after playing continuous cricket since the beginning of the IPL, speaks volumes about his fitness dedication. After a rigorous schedule, Gill finally enjoyed a brief break following the 50-over series in the West Indies.
