Indian cricket team were set to take the West Indies side in the first ODI match on February 6, in Ahmedabad. But due to a tight and packed 2022 cricketing calendar the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is currently formulating a plan to hold all the three ODI matches at a single venue.
Apart from the packed schedule, the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the country has already created a big danger and the BCCI seems to be in no mood to make matters worse by organising the three ODIs at three different venues.
According to the reports by Cricket.com the series might have only or maybe two venues as the official organisers of the matches.
‘Logistical nightmare’
According to a BCCI functionary holding six matches (three ODIs and three T20Is) will “add logistical nightmare.”
“Things look bleak and we are positioned to hit the peak of this third wave in February. Organizing matches in six venues will add logistical nightmare,” said a BCCI functionary.
The penultimate fixture of the 3-match ODI series was scheduled to be played in Jaipur three days later. The last match of the series is set to be played on February 12, in Kolkata. The three matches of the T20I series, on the other hand, are expected to take place in Cuttack, Visakhapatnam and Thiruvananthapuram.
Postponement of Ranji Trophy
Previously, the BCCI had to postpone Ranji Trophy, Col CK Nayudu Trophy, Vijay Merchant Under-16 Trophy and senior Women’s T20 league as well. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), on the other hand, decided to postpone all the local cricket events a week back.
India are currently playing a three-match Test series against South Africa in the Rainbow Nation. The Test series is slated to finish on January 15. After the Test series, team India under the captaincy of KL Rahul will commence the three-match ODI series on January 19. Rahul will be leading the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma after he was ruled out of the ODI series due to an injury.
Previously, in 2021, India and England played a Test series in India behind the closed doors.
