In preparation for the upcoming Test series against India, England Test captain Ben Stokes has undergone a successful left knee surgery. The procedure took place less than two months before the start of the highly anticipated series.
Stokes took to social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, to share a picture of himself on crutches, confirming the successful surgery. The 32-year-old all-rounder, who was recently released by his Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK), is hopeful of making a full recovery and returning to his all-rounder duties next year.
England Test captain Ben Stokes' recent bowling restrictions have concerns about his fitness and availability as a true all-rounder ahead of the crucial Test series against India.
During England's World Cup defense in India last month, Stokes was exclusively utilised as a batter, having previously announced his retirement from ODIs. Similarly, in the recent Ashes series against Australia, he bowled a mere 29 overs across the first two Tests, opting to refrain from bowling for the rest of the series.
These limitations raise questions about Stokes' ability to fulfill the all-rounder role effectively, particularly in the upcoming five-match Test series against India, which commences in Hyderabad on January 25. His fitness and bowling capabilities will be closely monitored as England prepares for this challenging series.
Notably, England have only won a Test series in India once since 1984, completing a 2-1 victory in late 2012.
