Big blow to Australia ahead of the Ashes, Pattinson calls time on Test cricket

Australian fast bowler James Pattinson has announced his retirement from international cricket ahead of the Ashes 2021-2022 at home that begins in December. According to The Australian, the 31-year-old has told the national selectors that he wishes not to be selected for the Ashes, which will commence from December 8. 

 

The right-arm pacer has decided to move away from international cricket to focus on his family and playing for his state. 

 

The Victorian made his Test debut in 2011 alongside Mitchell Starc and David Warner against New Zealand at the Gabba and went on to represent Australia in 21 Tests, 15 ODIs and 4 T20Is picking 81, 16 and 3 wickets respectively. On his Test debut in December 2011, he produced a spell to skittle the Kiwis in the second innings with bowling figures of  of 5 for 27 which earned him the player of the match award. The New Zealand series where he bagged 14 wickets in two Tests, remains the best performance of his career.

 

The Victoria-born cricketer played his last ODI in September 2015 before a back injury halted sidelined him. He made his Test cricket return in 2019 and played the Ashes series where he played a role in breaking Australia’s Ashes drought in England taking five wickets from two Tests.
