The Indian Premier League's (IPL) governing council, which now has new faces on the panel, are looking to plan the men's mini-auction in December, followed by finalising the details for the women's IPL, which has been scheduled to have it's an inaugural season next year.
"We met last week for the first time and have finalized certain things but we are expecting to have our first GC right after the World Cup because by that time all BCCI office bearers will be available for the meeting. We have to finalize the venue for the men's mini auction as of now some venues we have shortlisted include Istanbul, Bengaluru Delhi Mumbai Hyderabad but we are yet to decide it. Apart from that will be deciding to properly plan for women's IPL in terms of teams' franchise players' draft auctions," a source in the know of things told Sports Tak.
They also said that as of now the plan is to have five teams, with 18 players in each team. A maximum of four overseas players will be allowed in the playing XI. Sources added that the IPL GC is all set to go ahead with women's IPL and the majority of decisions such as the broadcasting right, and venues for women's IPL, among other things, will be taken in this meeting.
As per the previous plan proposed by The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), a maximum of 22 league games will be played in a league format, with teams to play each other twice. Each squad could have 18 players with a maximum of six from overseas. No more than five overseas players can feature in a playing XI, with four from Full Member countries and one from an Associate nation.
A BCCI note revealed that this new marquee event for women's cricket in India is expected to take place soon after the Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa from February 9-26.
