After India's ignominious loss in the semifinal of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 by — 10 wickets against England — It was expected that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will introduce some major changes in the way the national teams were run. And after news that the selection committee was sacked following India's poor performance, sources have also revealed to Sports Tak that the BCCI now has a fresh new plan for the T20I and ODI teams, namely a separate support staff for both formats.

Speaking to Sports Tak, a BCCI source said, "We are now thinking of having separate support staff including coach in T20 cricket. You can see big changes before India's next T20 series."

"Whoever comes will work under head coach Rahul Dravid and it is just because we want a different coach keeping the next 2023 World Cup in mind," the source further added.

This decision comes with the ICC ODI World Cup set to be hosted in India in 2023. This might mean that the current head coach of all three formats is Rahul Dravid, but in his absence, the team is usually coached by VVS Laxman.

Earlier, India's selection committee comprising Chetan Sharma (North zone), Harvinder Singh (Central Zone), Sunil Joshi (South Zone) and Debasish Mohanty (East Zone) have had the shortest stint as senior national selectors in recent times. Some of them were appointed in 2020 and some in 2021.

On October 18, it was learnt by Sports Tak that Chetan will be sacked after the BCCI AGM. When the selection committee was last reconstituted with Chetan Sharma as the Chairman in December 2020, the BCCI made it clear in a statement that ‘the CAC will review the candidates after a one-year period and make the recommendations to the BCCI’.

“Candidates who wish to apply for the said position need to fulfil the following criteria for their applications to be considered. ”Should have played a minimum of a) 7 Test matches; OR b) 30 First Class matches; OR c) 10 ODI and 20 First Class matches. Should have retired from the game at least 5 years ago. No person who has been a member of any Cricket Committee (as defined in the rules and regulations of BCCI) for a total of 5 years shall be eligible to be a member of Men’s Selection Committee," said BCCI in a release.
