Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Avishek Dalmiya has thanked the state government for the resumption of sports activities. In addition, the state has also announcement up to 75 per cent of capacity of spectators in the stadium for upcoming events.
"We are thankful to the Honourable Chief Minister Smt Mamata Banerjee, Chief Secretary and Government of West Bengal for announcing resumption of sporting activities as well as for allowing 75% of the capacity of spectators back to the stadium. We feel that it will give a fresh lease of life to the sports persons of the state,” Dalmiya said in a statement.
While CAB hosted a T20I clash between India and New Zealand in November 2021, it will now look forward to hosting the three-T20I series against West Indies in February. Last time, the bio-bubble was not breached in the state during the New Zealand series. This time, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has hosted the entirety of the T20I series in Kolkata to reduce the risk of contracting the virus while travelling.
Local tournaments including Ranji Trophy 2022’s league stage matches also expected to be hosted in the state. Also, it is yet to be seen whether BCCI will host the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 in India or not. Kolkata can be one of the venues decided for the upcoming season which will feature 10 teams.
Meanwhile, the CAB will also organise a vaccination camp for players who fall in the age bracket of 15 to 18. The state board had already organised a camp for the teenagers earlier this month.
