Cricket Ireland has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to schedule India’s warm-up games in Ireland ahead of the one-off Test and white-ball series against England next year.
It was recently announced that the postponed fifth Test between India and England will be played between July 1-5 in Edgbaston in 2022, after which both teams will square off in three ODIs and as many T20Is. Cricket Ireland, meanwhile, has reached out to the BCCI to schedule some warm-up matches for the Indian team in Ireland.
"The BCCI has been contacted by Cricket Ireland, who has requested that India's warm-up games be held in Ireland. The request was made as a means of assisting Irish cricket's growth, and talks between the boards are currently underway. The discussions are scheduled to take place before the final of the T20 World Cup "a source from Sportskeeda revealed
This is a move made by Cricket Ireland to develop their longer format cricket, as well as provide some practice for the Indian squad and acclimate them to the conditions before the Edgbaston Test against England.
Current Standing
India is currently leading the series by 2-1 by winning the second and fourth Test which was played at Lord’s and Kennington Oval respectively. While the hosts have won only a single Test which was held at Headingly. The last Test match was all set to be played at Manchester from September 10-14. However, it was postponed due to the constant Covid-19 cases fear and the schedule of the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The Manchester Test has been rescheduled for next year at Edgbaston, following BCCI and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) talks. It will be interesting to watch whether the BCCI agrees to Cricket Ireland's proposal of playing warm-up games before the Edgbaston Test.
