West Indies head coach Darren Sammy wasn't a happy man after seeing the umpires make multiple contentious decisions against his side during the second day of the Barbados Test against Australia. The day saw the hosts get bundled out for 190 runs in their first innings, taking a lead of 10 runs. In reply, the Baggy Greens would be restricted to 92/4 by the end of the play with Travis Head unbeaten on 13 and Beau Webster batting on 19.
Following the conclusion of Day 2, Sammy met with match referee Javagal Srinath according to a report by ESPNCricinfo. He did so in order to seek clarification regarding the controversial decisions that were taken against his team during the day.
There were two controversial decisions taken by the umpires
"We are just trying to find some sort of understanding as to what the process is. We only hope for consistency. That's all we could ask for. When there is doubt in something, just be consistent across the board," Sammy said, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
"I have noticed, especially with this particular umpire, it's something that for me started in England. It's frustrating. I just ask for consistency in the decision-making," he added.
There were two decisions that the hosts weren't satisfied with at all. The first was the dismissal of Roston Chase, who was adjudged lbw on a delivery bowled by Pat Cummins. However, despite there being clear evidence of an inside edge, the batter was still told to make his way back to the pavilion. The second decision was the dismissal of Shai Hope, who got caught behind by Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey. Though he seemed to have grassed the catch, the batter was still given out by the third umpire following the review.
"In our opinion, we saw the ball deviated onto the pad. I'm just saying, judge what you see. If you see the same thing and one is not out, there is even more doubt on the other one than you give it out. Again, I don't know what he's seen but from the images that we've seen, the decisions are not fair enough for both teams. We're all humans. Mistakes will be made. I just want fairness," Sammy said on Chase's dismissal.
Meanwhile, Australia head into the third day of the Test match carrying an 82-run lead. It will be interesting to see if their batters will be able to help them in posting a big target for the hosts in a game that has so far been highly dominated by the bowlers.
