On the fourth ball of the over, Dhananjaya was batting on 61 was surprised as the defensive shot off a short resulted in the ball going towards the stumps. The Sri Lankan batter tried to clear the ball with bat, unfortunately the bat hit the top of the bails.

The personal catastrophe was evident on the pitch for the batting all-rounder as he couldn’t hide his disappointment walking back to the crease. The hit-wicket ended the 111- run stand with captain Dimuth Karunaratne for the fourth wicket. Karunaratne went on to score 147 before he was dismissed by Roston Chase who took a fifer.
