Scotland opener George Munsey created history on February 15 in ICC Cricket World Cup League Two 2019-2023. Munsey smashed a 61-ball hundred, the second-fastest by a batter from non-Test playing nation. Munsey’s maiden ODI ton also helped Scotland beat Namibia by 10 wickets and register their biggest win by wickets.
Chasing a non-threatening target of 154, Munsey used the fielding restrictions well and got to his half-century from 34 deliveries in the 13th over. He took 27 more deliveries to get to his maiden ODI century. He finished the run chase with a boundary and achieved the milestone. The left-handed batter smashed 12 fours and seven sixes in his unbeaten 103.
Munsey shared an unbeaten 157-run opening partnership with former skipper Kyle Coetzer who scored 46 runs from 72 deliveries. Scotland won the game with 167 balls to spare.
Scotland’s previous biggest win (by wickets) came against Ireland when they chased down the 242-run target in 2014 with eight wickets in hand and 26 balls to spare. In terms of balls remaining, this is their third-biggest win. They had beaten Nepal last year in two ODI encounters by 186 balls and 198 balls remaining respectively.
Earlier, Namibia suffered a batting collapse. Apart from Lohan Louwrens, the top five batters failed to fire. Mark Watt and Safyaan Sharif dominated them and took three wickets each. Later, Michael Leask got four wickets as Namibia got all out for 153 from 39.2 overs. Louwrens was the top-scorer with 54 runs from 88 deliveries.
