In a big announcement, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has appointed West Indies' legend Kieron Pollard as their assistant coach as this move comes as part of the preparations for the 2024 T20 World Cup. England, who are the reigning champions, secured the title in 2022 by defeating Pakistan.
Pollard will link up with the England's coaching staff for the World Cup, which will be joints hosted by West Indies and USA and is set to commence from June 4, 2024. Pollard is also part of Mumbai Indians' coaching team for the IPL 2024 and now he will also offer his expertise to the England team particularly during the World Cup 2024 in June. He is set to become a part of England's coaching staff for the World Cup, which will commence on June 4 in the West Indies and the United States.

The ECB announced made this announcement through a press release which stated,"Kieron Pollard, who played 101 IT20s for the West Indies, will join England for the T20 World Cup. Former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard has been appointed to the England Men’s coaching team for next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the West Indies and United States."
“Pollard will join the England Men’s team specifically for the T20 World Cup as an assistant coach and to provide expertise of local conditions. Pollard was a part of West Indies’ 2012 Men’s T20 World Cup success and has vast experience in the format having played more than 600 matches,” the press release added.
Following a disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023, England's cricket team faced further setback with a 2-3 T20I series loss to the West Indies. These challenges in limited-overs cricket are complicating their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, the inclusion of Pollard in their coaching team is expected to significantly enhance their support staff.
Pollard, a seasoned player, has been part of two World Cup victories with the West Indies in 2012 and 2016. With a wealth of experience from playing 637 professional T20 matches, including 101 at the international level, his expertise will be invaluable for Jos Buttler's team, which is currently facing difficulties.
England's next engagement is a tour of India for a five-match Test series commencing on January 25, followed by hosting a four-match T20I series against Pakistan in May.
