Lack of chances, constant snub forces Pakistan batter with over 14,000 runs and 43 tons to trade home turf for a career in the US

Fawad Alam became the latest cricketer from Pakistan to trade home turf in order to pursue a career in the US. According to a report in Cricbuzz, the left-handed batter has decided to part ways with Pakistan cricket after he was constantly snubbed for national team selection. The 36-year-old veteran batter with an unorthodox batting stance will now play for the Chicago Kingsmen in Minor League Cricket T20 as a 'local player.

Alam represented Pakistan in all three formats of the game after making his international debut 16 years ago in 2007. Despite being around for more than one-and-a-half decade, Alam played just 81 international matches for Pakistan. In what was a stop-start career for the 36-year-old, the Pakistan batter never managed to solidify his place in the national team squad on a regular basis.

He was hard done by the selectors on numerous occasions as his consistent performances in domestic cricket were never rewarded in an appropriate manner.

Alam played 19 Tests and scored 1,011 runs at an average of 38.88. The southpaw's conversion rate remains exquisite even though the sample size is significantly small. The veteran batter registered two half-centuries and five hundreds in Test cricket for Pakistan.

In ODIs, Alam scored 966 runs in 38 matches at an average of 40.25 and a strike rate of 74.47. He registered one century and six fifties in 50-over cricket for the Men in Green.

In T20Is, the left-arm batter scored 194 runs in 17 innings. Perhaps, the highlight of his career came in 2009 when he was part of the Pakistan side that won the T20 World Cup.

Alam will go down as one of the stalwarts of Pakistan's domestic cricket. He tallied a staggering 14,526 in 201 First-Class matches at an outstanding average of 55.65. The left-handed batter whacked 43 tons and 70 half-centuries in red-ball cricket.
