Gautam Gambhir's tenure as KKR mentor

After mentoring Lucknow Super Giants for two years, Gambhir joined KKR in 2024 as the mentor and under his guidance the franchise lifted their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title after a 10-year title drought. The franchise won their last title in 2014 and that was under the captaincy of Gambhir. To join India as a coach, he will have to leave his stint with KKR.

Apart from Gambhir reportedly too many cricketers seemed to be in the fray when the BCCI initially rolled out the vacancy. That include former Australian skipper and current Delhi Capitals (DC) coach Ricky Ponting, former Australia coach and current Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) coach Justin Langer, former England coach and current Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) coach Andy Flower, current Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) coach Kumar Sangakkara.
