Bangladesh pacer Shohidul Islam has been banned by International Cricket Council (ICC) for 10 months for failing an out-of-competition dope test which was conducted in March 2022.
"Bangladesh pacer Shohidul Islam has been suspended for 10 months after pleading guilty to breaching Article 2.1 of the ICC Anti-Doping code," the ICC said in a statement.
"After admitting the offence, Shohidul has been suspended from all forms of cricket for 10 months."
His urine sample had tested positive for Clomifene, a substance which is under WADA's Prohibited List. In his defense, Shohidul said he had no intention to use the prohibited substance and he consumed it unknowingly in the form of medicine which was prescribed for therapeutic purposes.
Shohidul's 10-month suspension has been backdated to May 28, the day of the offence. He can rejoin the Bangladesh squad on March 28, 2023.
The right-arm pacer was a part of Bangladesh's travelling squads for New Zealand and South Africa tours. He missed out on making his Test debut in the ongoing series against West Indies due to side strain.
The Narayanganj-born bowler made his T20I debut against Pakistan last year in November. He got the wicket of Mohammad Rizwan on his debut. The young pacer got through in-form Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter’s defense and bowled him. Bangladesh lost the T20I series by 3-0.
The 27-year-old has taken 93 First-Class wickets. He has also represented Comilla Victorians and Khulna Tigers in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL).
