Haryana win Cooch Behar Trophy, Under-19 World Cup-winning stars dazzle in final

Under-19 World Cup 2022-winning member Nishant Sindhu-led Haryana beat Mumbai in four-day Cooch Behar Trophy final on the basis of first innings score at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. With a win over Mumbai, Haryana complete a double. They won the 50-over Vinoo Mankad Trophy as well in November 2021.


Three centuries in Haryana’s first innings

In the first innings, Haryana lost their two wickets early. Mayank Shandilya got out for 16 whereas Ahaan Poddar registered a four-ball duck. The partnership between Rohan Deshwal and skipper Sindhu helped Haryana get back on track after winning the toss and opting to bat first. The two batters shared a 199-run partnership for the third wicket. 


While Deshwal played the anchor role, Sindhu batted like it is a white-ball game. The southpaw scored 115 runs from 114 deliveries including 18 fours and two sixes. The partnership was broken by Prince Badiani. Middle-order batter Parth Vats started well but got run out. Deshwal got out as well after 101-run knock off 203 deliveries. Haryana lost too many wickets quickly. Dinesh Bana got out for a seven-ball duck as well. From 232/2, Haryana were 253/6 in a space of six overs. 


Wicketkeeper-batter Sarvesh Rohilla batted with the tail and scored his century. Rohilla remained not out for 100 from 192 deliveries while batting with the tail. Garv Sangwan (24), Vivek Kumar (29), Akhil Ahlawat (11) and Ishan Bhardwaj (15) contributed to the first innings score as well. For Mumbai, Suryash Shedge and Badiani picked up three wickets each.


Raghuvanshi runs out of partners

In reply, Mumbai openers got them off to a brilliant start. Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Ayush Jethwa shared a 138-run partnership for the first wicket. While Jethwa gout out after scoring 42 whereas Raghuvanshi went on to score 97. Mumbai middle-order batters got starts but were not able to convert into a big score. Raghuvanshi was dismissed by Garv Sangwan as he missed his century by just three runs. Lower-order batter Arjun Dani scored a quickfire 41 which helped Mumbai post 303 on the board. Sangwan starred for Haryana with a five-wicket haul.


Bana makes an impact

In Haryana's second innings none of the top order batters made an impact. Skipper Sindhu got out for a two-ball duck as well. But Bana ensured that Haryana don't lose too many wickets along with Rohilla. Bana scored an unbeaten 62 whereas Rohilla scored 28. Mumbai scored 211/5 in the second innings. Shedge was the pick of the bowlers with three wickets to his name.
