The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah revealed that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) speedster Mayank Yadav is currently in National Cricket Academy (NCA) and there is no guarantee that he will feature for India in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 which will be hosted by Australia later this year.

Jay Shah also said that the veteran speedster Mohammed Shami who is currently on the road to recovery will be there for India in Australia considering his experience.

“Your question about Shami is right, but I cannot give you any answer on Mayank Yadav as there is no guarantee whether he will be in the team or no. But he is potentially a good fast bowler, and we are looking after him. He is currently in the NCA. Shami will be there because he is experienced, and we need him in Australia” said Jay Shah on TOI.

Mayank Yadav stole the limelight in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 where he bowled the fastest delivery in the history of the tournament. He bowled 156.7 Kmph in the clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). After that, the speedster got injured and is currently on the road to recovery.

On the other hand, Mohammed Shami is also out of cricket since the ODI World Cup 2023, he last featured for India in the final of the ODI World Cup against Australia at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on November 19. Shami finished the tournament as highest wicket taker, he picked up 24 wickets at an average of 10.70 and a strike rate of 12.20, with the best figures of 7/57 in the tournament.

Shami has started training in nets, he also shared a video on his social media where the pacer can be seen bowling. There are rumours that he could make his return in the Bangladesh Test series, but Shami has quashed those reports, stating that even he doesn't have a timeline for his return.
