Legendary Indian player Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new Indian head coach by the BCCI. He is the successor of Rahul Dravid for this position, who ended his tenure with a historic triumph in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024. Now, all the buzz is around India's new coaching staff. As per many reports, Gambhir has demanded and given the names of a lot of his former KKR teammates and coaching staff for the roles. However, the Indian cricket board is yet to give a green signal to his demands. Let's see how the support staff would look like if BCCI approves all demands from the ex-KKR mentor.
India's potential coaching staff
As per the latest reports, Gautam Gambhir has given his suggestions to BCCI for his candidates for different positions in the Indian coaching staff. He has reportedly suggested KKR's assistant coach Abhishek Nayar's name for the position of Assistant or batting coach in the Indian staff. KKR's other assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate would be the new fielding coach if BCCI approves Gambhir's demands. He also wants the Indian board to consider ex-Pakistan coach Morne Morkel for the role of Indian bowling coach. Morkel used to play for KKR back in the days under Gambhir's captaincy. Both of them were also in the same coaching staff for the Lucknow Super Giants.
Gautam Gambhir's first assignment
Team India's upcoming tour of Sri Lanka in which the Men in Blue will be competing in three T20Is and three ODIs will be the first assignment for Gautam Gambhir as the new Indian head coach. This is India's second assignment after Rahul Dravid's tenure. The first one was the Zimbabwe tour but the team played that series under NCA head VVS Laxman's guidance. This will be the first series under the new regime of Gambhir and he will be eyeing to continue India's dominance across formats.
