On Tuesday, the International Cricket Council (ICC) released the schedule for the 2023 ICC ODI Cricket World Cup, with the marquee tournament set to be played in India from October 5 to November 19. The game commences with a mega clash between the 2019 edition's defending champions England and runners-up New Zealand, as they lock horns in the opening match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The ICC have narrowed down 10 venues to host matches this time around – Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Dharamsala, Delhi, Chennai, Lucknow, Pune, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata. In addition to these cities, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Hyderabad will host warm-up matches from September 29 to October 3.
Meanwhile, India start off against five-time champions Australia on October 8 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The biggest clash of the tournament between India and Pakistan will take place on Sunday, October 15 in Ahmedabad.
Bookings for hotel rooms in Ahmedabad have also gone off the roof since the announcement for the dates of the matches were revealed. According to reports, the cheapest price for a five-star hotel in Ahmedabad is touching Rs 50,000 per night.
India last won the World Cup in 2011 after they beat Sri Lanka in the final. This match was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. But in 2015 or 2019, the team could not go beyond the semi-finals. The team lost to Australia and New Zealand.
