The President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Sourav Ganguly has once again taken to the media to address the Virat Kohli situation as he spoke about the player’s attitude. Speaking in a private ceremony, the former India captain admired the attitude of India’s current Test captain. The battle of words has become the epicenter of Indian cricket for the last couple of weeks ever since Kohli was sacked as the ODI captain.
The BCCI President who was in Gurgaon on Saturday (December 18) said, “I like Virat Kohli’s attitude but he fights a lot.”
Ganguly, who guided India to the final of the 2003 World Cup, also showcased his funny side by answering a question on stress management.
The 49-year-old said, “There is no stress in life. Only wife and girlfriend give stress."
Just a week remains before the start of India’s tour of South Africa in a three-match Test series as Kohli will have to turn his attention to the on-field issues rather than off-field. Former cricketers like Kapil Dev, Sunil Gavaskar and Kirti Azad have also voiced their opinion on the ongoing saga and have urged the 33-year-old to focus on cricket.
The Delhi batter showcased his anger by claiming that the BCCI never asked him to stay put as the captain of the T20 side when Kohli showed the desire to relinquish the captaincy in the shortest format of the game. The tussle was more intensified when Rohit Sharma was named the captain of the ODI side before the team’s selection for South Africa tour.
Now that Ganguly and BCCI have vowed to close the issue behind the scenes, it remains to be seen how Kohli reacts. The best possible way for the Test captain would be to answer his critics with the bat as he has gone more than two years without an International hundred. India’s tour of South Africa starts on Boxing Day (December 26) as Team India try to win their first Test series in the Rainbow nation.
