According to a report doing the rounds on social media, the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup will take place from June 4 to 30, with games being hosted in the West Indies and the United States across ten different locations.

ICC officials inspected potential venues in the USA in the last week, including ones that have yet to host a global international cricket tournament. Locations under consideration include Lauderhill in Florida, Morrisville, Dallas, and New York, with the latter three currently hosting the first season of Major League Cricket (MLC).

Stadiums in Dallas (Grand Prairie Stadium), Morrisville (Church Street Park), and New York (Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx) are still awaiting approval as international venues as required by ICC regulations. The final choice of venues will be determined in partnership between the ICC, Cricket West Indies (CWI), and USA Cricket (USAC) in the coming months.

Recently, Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea earned their places in the first-ever 20-team edition of the T20 World Cup through the ICC's regional qualifier pathway. Papua New Guinea took the top spot in the East Asia-Pacific Qualifier, while Ireland and Scotland secured the first two places in the Europe Region Qualifier. The representatives from the Americas (one spot), Africa (two spots), and Asia (two spots) will be chosen shortly.

England lift the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia

Already confirmed for the tournament are twelve teams, including host nations West Indies and USA, and the top eight from the 2022 T20 World Cup: Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan and Bangladesh qualified through their places in the T20I rankings, rounding out the 20-team lineup.

Unlike the previous two T20 World Cups, the 2024 tournament will feature a different format. The 20 teams will initially be grouped into four groups of five, with the top two from each group advancing to the Super 8s. These eight teams will be split into two groups of four, and the top two from each group will progress to the semi-finals.

The 2024 T20 World Cup is the inaugural event in the ICC's new commercial cycle running from 2024 to 2031, established in 2021. The ICC's decision to select the USA as a co-host is a strategic move aimed at promoting cricket's growth in the North American market and pushing for its inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games. The ICC has presented to the LA28 team, with the final decision on cricket's inclusion to be made by the International Olympics Committee later this year.
