India women thrash Ireland by 6 wickets in 1st ODI
Ireland, after electing to bat first, faced early setbacks as Titas Sadhu (1/48) and Sayali Satghare (1/43) struck within the powerplay, leaving them reeling at 56/4. However, a crucial 117-run partnership between captain Gaby Lewis and Leah Paul steadied the innings. Lewis, who fell agonisingly short of a century and left stranded on 92, and Paul's gritty 59 helped Ireland post a competitive total of 238/7. Late contributions from Arlene Kelly and Georgina Dempsey further bolstered their score. Priya Mishra's 2/56 played a key role in restricting Ireland's momentum.

The Indian chase got off to a flying start with stand-in captain Smriti Mandhana scoring a quickfire 41 runs off 29 balls. During this innings, Mandhana achieved a significant milestone by becoming the fastest Indian woman cricketer to reach 4000 runs in ODIs. However, her dismissal at the end of the 10th over brought an end to her explosive start.
Pratika Rawal's top notch knock in India's win
Following Mandhana's departure, Pratika Rawal and Tejal Hasabnis formed a crucial partnership, ensuring a steady and consistent chase. Rawal played a pivotal role with a well-constructed 89 runs off 96 balls, including 10 boundaries. While Rawal looked in complete control during her innings, she unfortunately fell victim to a length delivery around off. Attempting a lofted shot, she mistimed it, and the ball was comfortably caught by the fielder at long-off.
Tejal Hasabnis remained unbeaten on 53 runs, ensuring a smooth and steady chase after Pratika Rawal's dismissal. Hasabnis played a crucial role in guiding the team to victory.
Aimee Maguire picked three wickets for Ireland's losing cause, but her efforts wasn't enough to contain the strong Indian batting lineup. The Indian team consistently maintained a steady scoring rate, capitalising effectively on loose bowling and fielding lapses from the Irish side. The resounding win in the series opener has given India a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
India will look to seal the series in the second ODI against Ireland which is scheduled to be played on January 12.
