The Indian Under-19 team for the upcoming Asia Cup has been announced by the All-India Junior Selection Committee (AIJS). The tournament will be played from December 23 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The squad comprises of 20 players along with five other members who will be part of the preparations at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru.
"The All-India Junior Selection Committee has picked a 20-member India U19 squad for the upcoming ACC U19 Asia Cup to be played in the UAE from 23rd December," a statement released by AIJS read.
The squad will start its preparations in Bangalore at the NCA ahead of the tournament. Yash Dhull will lead the side as the Delhi-based player was in glittering form in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He scored 302 runs in the tournament averaging 75.50. The Delhi batter will be one of India’s key assets going into the Under-19 Asia Cup.
The likes of Ayush Singh Thakur, Uday Saharan, Shashwat Dangwal will all serve as plan B in the team and could be drafted into the team in case of injuries. The core of the Indian team will also likely make the U-19 World Cup which is due to be played in West Indies in the coming February. India have won the U-19 World Cup on four occasions and are one of the favorites to win the tournament.
In the previous edition, Priyam Garg-led India were runner-ups of the tournament as they were beaten by Bangladesh in the final.
