Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s T20I squad for the upcoming West Indies series at home. There have been few changes in the Rohit Sharma-led T20I side.
India’s fast bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the limited-overs series against the Caribbean team. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has retained his place in the T20I team after getting excluded from the ODI squad.
India’s young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has earned his maiden call-up in the T20I squad. Bishnoi recently got retained by new franchise Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for Rs 4 crore.
Washington Sundar makes a comeback after missing the ODI series in South Africa. Sundar tested positive for Covid-19 before boarding the flight to South Africa. Avesh Khan is also in the squad. However, he is yet to make his international debut.
India have given Venkatesh Iyer another chance after losing his place in the ODI squad following lacklustre performances in South Africa. From the T20I squad against New Zealand last year, only Ruturaj Gaikwad has been dropped without getting a chance.
This will be the first time Virat Kohli will be playing T20Is under the leadership of Rohit. The Mumbai batter missed the South Africa tour due to injury. He passed the fitness test on January 26 before the T20I squad was announced.
The T20I series will begin on February 16. The three T20I series will be played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
West Indies are yet to announce their squad for the limited-overs series. The Kieron Pollard-led side is currently playing against England.
