The Women’s Selection Committee on July 2 (Sunday) announced the senior women's national squad for the upcoming tour of Bangladesh. Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the 18-member T20I and ODI squads while Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy. There were some surprising commissions as well with right-arm fast bowler Renuka Singh, wicketkeeper-batter Richa Ghosh, veteran allrounder Shikha Pandey and left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad not picked for the Bangladesh tour.
Minnu Mani, who is an all-rounder from Kerala, has received her maiden India call-up. She has been named in the T20I squad. With Gaikwad getting dropped, Anusha Bareddyand Rashi Kanojiya, both of whom are left-arm orthodox spinners, have been named in T20I as well as the ODI squads.
The Women in Blue will first cross swords against Bangladesh in a three-match T20I series. The first match is scheduled to be played on July 9. The three-match ODI series will commence on July 16 and the tour will come to an end on July 22. All six matches are slated to be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur. The T20Is will start at 1:30 PM IST while the ODI matches will begin at 9 AM IST.
