India secured an unassailable 2-0 series lead with one game remaining after defeating the West Indies by a commanding 115 runs in the second ODI. India's powerful batting and disciplined bowling were too much for the West Indies, despite their valiant efforts to chase a challenging target of 359 runs.
India batters steal show
With a partnership of 110 runs, Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal, India's openers, laid the groundwork for the team's innings. Even though she was dismissed for 53, Mandhana set the stage for the innings. After scoring 76 runs off 86 balls with a fluid knock, Rawal appeared to be headed for a century before being removed. At number three, Harleen Deol was instrumental in creating the momentum. She started out slowly before picking up speed at the end and scoring her first ODI century—an amazing 100 runs off 108 balls, including 11 boundaries.
Although Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 22 runs, Jemimah Rodrigues' solid 52 helped to take the score even higher. Richa Ghosh (13*) and Deepti Sharma (45*) finished strongly to record their joint-highest ODI scores as the Indian side finished their innings at 358/5 in 50 overs.
Indian bowlers seal the win
The West Indies' fielding was careless throughout, leading to multiple extras, including 20 wides, as they battled to stop the Indian assault. Hayley Matthews, however, rallied for the West Indies with a spectacular 106, her seventh ODI century. Shemaine Campbelle, who scored 38 runs, provided temporary support for Matthews, who was the only player of note for the visitors. They combined to score 112 runs for the fifth wicket, but as wickets fell, the needed rate increased.
The bowlers from India carried out their strategies effectively; Priya Mishra was the most effective, taking three wickets. Renuka Singh got rid of the dangerous Deandra Dottin for ten, while Deepti Sharma, Pratika Rawal, and Titas Sadhu each claimed two wickets. India won easily because the West Indies could only muster 243 runs in 46.2 overs. This all-encompassing victory demonstrated India's supreme batsmanship. India will aim to complete the sweep in the last match, as they have already secured the series.
