Preparations for The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auctions are in full flow. Ahead of the mega auctions where there will be a major reshuffle of players in January 2022, existing eight franchises need to submit their list of retained players till November 30. According to retention policy, eight franchises can retain a maximum number of four players. All eyes are glued to franchises as they face a tough question on who to retain? Also, it will be interesting if a franchise lets go of all the players and look for a fresh start in the mega auctions. When will retentions be announced?
The retentions will be announced on November 30. Each franchise can retain a maximum of three Indian players. On the other hand, a franchise can retain a maximum of two overseas players.
What time will retentions be revealed?
The names of players retained by franchises will be revealed starting 9:30 PM on November 30. The list of players will be revealed by the franchises one by one.

What are rules of retention?
The existing eight franchise cannot retain more than three Indian players whether they are capped or uncapped. Two overseas players can be retained by each franchises. On the other hand, the two new franchises can choose two Indian players and one overseas player from the remaining pool.
IPL purse remaining after retentions
According to retention rules, a franchise will have a purse of Rs 90 crore. If a team decides to retain four players then Rs 42 crore will be deducted from the purse whereas for three retentions Rs 33 crore will be deducted. For two players the deduction will be Rs 14 crore and for one player it will be Rs 14 crore. For every uncapped player, the franchise will have to spend Rs 4 crore.
Retained players' salary
The four players retained will be divided into four categories. The first player to be retained will be paid Rs 16 crore whereas the second player will be retained for Rs 12 crore followed by Rs 8 crore and Rs 6 crore for the third and four player respectively. If a franchise decides to retain three players, the first player will receive Rs 15 crore followed by Rs 11 crore for second and Rs 7 crore for the third. If a franchise retains two players, the first pick will get Rs 14 crore followed by Rs 10 crore for second player. In case, a franchise retains just one player then he will get Rs 14 crore.
