New Zealand's ace pacer Trent Boult has revealed the 'proudest achievements' of the country which consists of just over five million people. The left-arm pacer ranked the Black Caps' World Test Championship (WTC) victory after defeating Team India in the final in 2021 as the country's best achievement, one which is unlikely to transpire 'again'.
"For us even to get to that stage as a Test-playing nation of however many people (five million), playing probably only eight Tests a year - if that," Boult, who is currently playing the Big Bash League, told 'The Age'.
"To get two years of results to get into the final, and then beat India - 1.4 billion people - will never happen again.
"I think that’s one of the proudest achievements any New Zealander could have when you look at the sheer size of it," he added.
Under Kane Williamson's captaincy, the Kiwis registered an emphatic eight-wicket win in the WTC final against India and cliched their first-ever ICC trophy in history. Boult was instrumental in New Zealand's victory as he bagged five wickets in the match (two wickets in the first innings and three wickets in the second innings). Boult bagged wickets of Cheteshwar Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant and Ravichandran Ashwin in the final.
The Black Caps have performed exceedingly well in ICC tournaments in the last decade, reaching the final of the ODI World Cup in two consecutive editions (2015 and 2019) but ended up coming second best, first to Australia and then to England.
