Team India ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who hasn't played cricket since September last year and underwent back surgery, has been battling with a long tryst with injuries. The right-arm pacer is currently undergoing rehabilitation and according to a report, the India fast bowler is slowly but surely getting back on track.

According to a report in PTI, Bumrah has bowled seven overs in the nets at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and is expected to play a few practice matches next month.

"For an injury of this nature, it is not wise to set any timeline as constant monitoring is necessary. But it can be said that Bumrah is recovering well and he has bowled seven overs at NCA nets. It is a steady increase in his workload from the light workouts and bowling sessions of the initial period," PTI quoted a source as saying.

"He will play a few practice matches (at NCA) next month, and there will be a close assessment of his fitness then," the source added.

Pestered by the recurring back injury, Bumrah has been sidelined which has cost India big time in the mega events including the recent WTC final which they lost by 209 runs. Bumrah's absence has hurt India not just in the WTC final but also in last year's Asia Cup and T20 World Cup.

Since September 2022 Bumrah hasn't played a single match due to his back issues. However, he was rushed into action in the series against Australia after missing the Asia Cup, with T20 World Cup in the offing, but the decision only backfired as his injury aggravated which ruled him out of big series including the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series and the WTC final. Bumrah was also ruled out of the IPL 2023.
