The veteran English pacer Katherine Sciver-Brunt has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday (May 5). The 37-year-old ended her 19 years of illustrious career which was studded with 335 wickets scalps across formats for England. The legendary Brunt picked 170 wickets in ODIs, 114 in T20Is and 51 scalps in the longest format of the game.
Sciver Brunt was part of England women's 2009 World Cup winning cricket team as she was also adjudged the Player of the Match in the grand finale in which she snared 3/6 against New Zealand.
Drawing curtains on her international cricket journey Sciver-Brunt said,"Well here I am, 19 years later, at the end of my international journey. I thought I’d never be able to reach this decision but I have and it’s been the hardest one of my life. I never had any dreams or aspirations to do what I’ve done, I only ever wished to make my family proud of me. And what I’ve achieved has gone way beyond that.
"I have so much to be thankful for, cricket has given me a purpose, a sense of belonging, security, many golden memories and best friends that will last a lifetime. Of the trophies and titles I could have wished to achieve, I have reached them all, but my greatest achievement is the happiness that I have found in Nat. The biggest thanks I have though goes to my family, they are my biggest fans and greatest support without which I wouldn’t have made this journey at all," she added.
Having already retired from Test cricket last year, she won't be participating in the Ashes which will be played in tandem with the Men's Ashes in June and July. Sciver-Brunt had already announced her retirement from regional cricket, but she will continue to play in the Hundred.
Sciver-Brunt made her England debut in 2004, won three World Cups in her glittering career and four Ashes series and topped the wicket-taking charts for England Women in both IT20 and ODI cricket.
