Indian opener KL Rahul has reacted to the rumours of him getting injured after India’s ODI squad for Zimbabwe was announced. Rahul was expected to make his return in the ongoing T20I series against West Indies but missed out after testing positive for Covid-19 at National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru, where he was completing his rehabilitation.

Rahul’s complete statement posted on Twitter -
“Hey guys, I want to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness.
My surgery in June was successful, and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the teams [sic] tour of the West Indies.
Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for COVID-19.
This naturally pushes things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible, and be available for selection as soon as I can.
To represent the national team is the highest honour, and I cannot wait to get out there back in blue.”

Rahul was ruled out of home T20I series against South Africa after Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He was named captain against the Proteas in the absence of Rohit Sharma but Rishabh Pant led the hosts after Rahul’s injury.

The Karnataka-born batter had a successful surgery in Germany after which he returned to NCA.

The 30-year-old is expected to return to the international arena in the upcoming Asia Cup which will take place in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The last time Rahul played an ODI was against West Indies in February 2022. In his absence from the T20I squad, the team management tried a few opening combinations including Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav just few months away from T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
