Lucknow Super Giants made headlines this Saturday by announcing the appointment of the seasoned former India spinner, Sridharan Sriram, as an assistant coach for the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Sriram will be adding his vast expertise to an already illustrious coaching panel consisting of Justin Langer as the head coach, Gautam Gambhir in the mentor's role, and other specialists such as Vijay Dahiya (assistant coach), Pravin Tambe (spin-bowling coach), Morne Morkel (fast-bowling coach), and the legendary Jonty Rhodes taking charge of the fielding department.
Boasting a rich coaching portfolio, Sriram recently played a pivotal role as a technical consultant for Bangladesh, aiding them in registering significant wins during the Super 12 phase of the ICC T20 World Cup held in Australia. This success was no isolated feat as Sriram has been continuously enhancing teams with his tactical prowess. Notably, his association with the Australian cricket team since 2016 culminated in the team's triumphs at the T20 World Cup and the Ashes series in the 2021-22 season.
Sridharan Sriram's familiarity with the IPL circuit is evident from his earlier association with the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In his tenure with RCB, he donned the role of an assistant coach, primarily focusing on enhancing the team's batting prowess and mentoring the spin-bowling department. His coaching credentials are further solidified with the ECB Level-3 “Head Coach” qualification, which he acquired in 2008.
While his coaching feats are commendable, Sriram also has an impressive track record as a player. He represented India in eight One Day Internationals (ODIs) and played extensively in the domestic cricket circuit for teams like Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Goa, Assam, and Himachal Pradesh.
As the IPL landscape evolves with new strategies and the integration of technological advancements, the inclusion of experienced personnel like Sriram to the Lucknow Super Giants' coaching staff undoubtedly heralds promising prospects for the team in the upcoming season.
